Project HOPE (Hispanic Outreach for People with Disabilities in Employment) is a community-driven initiative designed to raise awareness about the employment rights of people with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Focused on the Great Lakes region, the project delivers culturally relevant information in both English and Spanish, building bridges between Hispanic community members and the resources they need to thrive in the workforce.
In Fall 2023, Project HOPE reached nearly 200 participants through bilingual training sessions hosted in partnership with local organizations. These sessions covered key topics such as disability rights, employment protections under the ADA, and the role of community support. Follow-up interviews revealed common barriers—including limited access to information, stigma, and lack of inclusive job opportunities—that prevent many Latinos with disabilities from fully benefiting from ADA protections.
By listening to community voices and engaging local leaders, employers, healthcare providers, and advocates, Project HOPE is working to break down these barriers. Together, we're building more inclusive workplaces and ensuring every individual knows their rights and feels empowered to pursue meaningful employment.
