Bio:
Lode Sabbe is the Innovation Manager for Rehabilitation at the University Hospital Ghent, focusing on advancing technology-driven rehabilitation solutions. Previously, he served as Head of the Department of Occupational Therapy, leading a team of over 50 occupational therapists.
In addition to his role at the hospital, Lode is the Operational Manager of the Smart Space UZ Ghent, a hospital-wide technological platform that integrates clinical and applied research with development initiatives (Smart Space | UZ Gent).
Since 2020, he has been actively involved in XR development for healthcare at Howest University, where he serves as an applied researcher. His work bridges the Department of Occupational Therapy (www.howest.be) with HITLAB (www.hitlab.be), fostering innovation at the intersection of extended reality (XR) and healthcare.
In 2022, he was appointed Co-chair of the Healthcare Vertical within XR Valley Belgium (www.xrvalley.be), a national ecosystem dedicated to the advancement of XR technology.
By combining expertise in XR, rehabilitation, and applied research, Lode has expanded his impact from occupational therapy and allied health professions to hospital-wide XR and other technological applications, benefiting both patients and healthcare professionals.
