Nettie Capasso, OTD, OTR/L, has been an occupational therapist for 25 years and currently serves as an occupational therapy supervisor at Rusk Rehabilitation, NYU Langone Health. She has co-authored articles for several peer-reviewed journals including the Occupational Therapy Journal of Research, the American Journal of Occupational Therapy, the Archives of Rehabilitation Research and Clinical Translation, and Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications. She was also a contributing author to the textbook Occupational Therapy for Physical Dysfunction. Additionally, Nettie has given peer-reviewed presentations at national and international conferences including the American Occupational Therapy Association, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Conference, the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America Conference, the International Seating Symposium, and the Festival of International Conferences on Caregiving, Disability, Aging and Technology. Nettie's research interest in stroke rehabilitation and functional recovery of the neurological upper extremity inspired her co-creation of the Functional Upper Extremity Levels (FUEL) assessment and her first co-authored book (AOTA Press, in press) on the Functional Upper Extremity Levels (FUEL), which is a performance-based assessment of neurological upper extremity function. Nettie holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food science (Hunter College, the City University of New York), a master’s degree in occupational therapy (New York University), and a post-professional occupational therapy doctorate degree (Shenandoah University). She is currently a Ph.D. student in occupational therapy at Nova Southeastern University.
