How Can the RTSS Support the Implementation of Behavior Change Interventions into Rehabilitation Practice? 1172

Whilst behavioral change intervention (BCI) research has developed significantly over the last 10-15 years, interventions remain inconsistently utilized in rehabilitation practice. The need to better utilize BCIs in rehabilitation can be reasoned from two perspectives. Firstly, most rehabilitation treatments are volitional, meaning treatment outcomes are related to patient’s behaviors towards treatment. Secondly, it is recognized that unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are associated with increasing rates of morbidity and mortality.  This session will discuss whether using the Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) in rehabilitation can aid implementation of BCIs through exploring two clinical applications. We will present the TANGO study, a co-designed and adapted form of communication partner training for speech and language pathologists delivering interventions to people with brain injury. We will then discuss how the RTSS was used to support physical therapists to reason and implement behavioral change interventions in a novel, eHealth weight management program.
